After the inaugural expo in 2009, the annual event will be held in new digs at Federation Square from Thursday, May 20 to Saturday, May 22, with the continued support of major sponsor, Dan Murphy's. Coinciding with the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) - the second-largest of their kind in the world - the expo will again unite the global brewing community with beer-lovers keen to learn more about the art of beer production and meet the people behind it. With a strong emphasis on education, the expo is tapping into the growing demand for better beer knowledge while introducing many unique brews now available. Presentations from international experts will be held on a wide range of topics, including home brewing, beer and food matching, tasting master classes and more, costing just $5 per 20-30 minute presentation on the day to attend. EARLY BIRD entry tickets to each public tasting session are $22.75 with groups of 7 or more receiving a 15% discount at $19.35 per ticket. Guest speakers include the US's Jamil Zainasheff, Roger Protz from the UK and Australia's own 'Fast Ed' Halmagyi. From ales to bocks, porters to stouts, wheat beers and everything beyond, expo visitors will have the chance to sample unique brews from around the world. The brewers themselves will be manning the stands to tackle the big questions face-to-face, leaving visitors with a solid understanding of the increasing diversity and complexity of beers, particularly those now being produced in Australia. A strong focus on RSA will be retained throughout the expo, with 30ml samples, 100ml paid tastings along with take away sales, and food and public transport options for the CBD location. EARLY BIRD entry tickets ($22.75) are now on sale (with a further 15% discount for groups of 7 or more), with tickets at the door ($25), but everyone who takes advantage of the 15% Early Bird Discount before May 6 will go into the draw to win the sought-after grand prize. The winner will receive a tour of the Matilda Bay Garage Brewery with 9 of their mates, complete with a tasting, lunch and transport to and from the Dandenong site, thanks to Scruffy Bunch Tours. The party of 10 will then move on to Cocoon Bar in the city for a beer and pizza package, before the winner retires to their free night's accommodation at the Mercure Welcome Melbourne. Other prizes will also be up for grabs at the expo, including lucky door prizes such as BREW Cellar home brew starter kits, Coopers Vintage Ale Signed Magnums by Tim and Glenn Cooper, cases of Coopers 62 and Chang and other goodies designed to keep beer-lovers happy. Beer & Brewer Expo 2010 sponsors include Dan Murphy's, tying into their focus on making available more local and international boutique beers through their 110-plus outlets nationwide, as well as BREW Cellar, Chang and Coopers. If you are travelling from overseas, interstate or regional Victoria, we have discounted accommodation available over the expo dates through official partners The Swanston Hotel Grand Mercure and Mercure Welcome Melbourne, which are only 500m walk from Fed Square. Early Bird discounted tickets can be bought through Ticketek, participating BREW Cellar home brew stockists and participating Beer & Brewer magazine stockists. Beer & Brewer Expo is a trade-only event on Thursday 20th (The Atrium) and Friday 21st May (Young and Jackson Hotel) both days from 11am – 4pm. These sessions are run to co-incide with the beer awards - with so many brewers and suppliers in Melbourne for the Presentation Dinner, the Beer & Brewer Expo provides a platform for Exhibitors to network with current and prospective customers, and also to demonstrate new products and services. Forums will be conducted during each day at Tjanabi Restauarant, The Atrium (Thursday May 20) and Young and Jackson Hotel (Friday May 21) on topics such as How to Build a Beer List, How to Buy, Sell and Taste Beer, How to Start a Brewery or Beer Brand. This part of the Expo is open to trade only, with free admission. To register now for either or both sessions, click here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Beer & Brewer Expo exercises the responsible service of alcohol and advises visitors to plan on tasting 20 x 100mL paid tastings (approx 7 standard drinks) or less during a 4 hour session. There will be 35+ Exhibitors to choose from with some beers and styles not to your liking meaning you wouldnt be tasting a beer from every Exhibitor. We are recommending that each Exhibitor samples 3 beers per session. Please note there is ample public transport options to ensure your trip to and from the Beer & Brewer Expo is quick and easy. |
